Melo routinely admits that he only knows ONE way of doing things and whether or not its the right approach (in terms of leading a team) I doesn't know. He's said this numerous times. Melo aint the type of person that can lead a team of role players and scrubbery. Melo can't make deep runs in the playoffs as the number one option night in and night out.
And this is why A.I. doesn't get the credit he deserves as far as leading a team his way. Melo, like A.I. was a volume shooter but the difference between the two is A.I. was just as effective in the 3rd and 4th quarter as he was in the 1st half. If you gonna be a volume shooter at least be effective at it. His defense is trash and well, his offensive skill set is not built to facilitate even when he's not playing well.

A.I. was surrounded by defensive players in a weaker EC. Melo wants to take all the shots and be surrounded by guys who aren't great defenders....and he doesnt want to defend either.

The teams they had to go through to get to the finals wasn't weak though and even though they got beat in 5 by the Lakers, they was in almost every game. This team has enough talent to compete, they just don't know how to play with each other. Melo sets the tone and he basically wings it. Its like he has in his head when he's going to shoot no matter what. He knows before the ball crosses half court if he's going to shoot. Lack of defense is attributed to his poor conditioning. A.I was also able to adjust his game which is why he could average 7 to 8 assists a season if he wanted to.
Melo's been begging for calls around the rim...problem is he can't jump. Monroe and Drummond are good athletes...you're not getting those calls.

Which is why the knicks should say fukk it and keep it moving. When they made all of those moves it was for short term riches. That ship has sailed and the Knicks are currently sitting at the dock looking like...
