Both Mental and he is being used wrong. shump is at a 3rd year player still being treated like a rookie. He gets chewed out for every mistake. JR goes for 5-17 fukks up some key positions on both sides of the ball and get the most minutes. On top of that Hardaway is a scorer on a team that needs to score because they don't play defense. At best they should make him into a D&3 guy but JR is taking 17 3's from ISO alongside the other ISO's Melo takes so when are they running plays to allow him to improve that?
Also look at the last game when he shut Brandon Knight down when he was told to man up D him. That's how he should be used. A good\great man to man defender against 1 & 2's. The Knicks play him on the 3 and ask him to switch and stop whoever is in front of him. The Knicks should look to groom him into a Tony Allen who can score off the catch or slash, but you hear reports the FO got mad he didnt work on his handle.....
The only good thing is the FO seems aware of the fact Shump could thrive in a better system and they aren't going to trade him for peanuts. The knicks are so dysfunctial.

Not being used right. With JR and Melo taking a chunk of the shots, the rest of the team is left to fend for themselves. JR's shot selection has been egregious and him not being benched for those 17 threes is egregious.
I don't even blame Shump for having his confidence killed. His "owner" hates him, his coach demeans him, a streaky SG with lesser defense than him and the rookie drafted gets all the minutes and he always gets chewed out. At least Shump will board and defend when he's not hitting shots.

Hes a starter and we run 0 plays for him, to me that really sums it up. How can he ever get out of a shooting slump when he only gets jump shots off great ball movement, which is rare this season. Him getting chewed out and shown zero respect effects him to. Like if he takes a bad shot woodson benches him, JR takes a bad shot, turns it over, misses a defensive assignment within 1 minute and he stays in. Hell even when shump is playing "well" he gets taken out, if Shump was giving us 12 points a night on 50% shooting and lock down defense, you think he wouldn't still get benched for JR? You think shump putting up 17 3s!
anyways, the knee surgery, trade rumors, losing games and just plain disrespect are the main reasons. I do feel he will look better as the season goes on tho and needs to be more aggressive/confident
