Crawford Turns Himself In On Body Shop Incident Charges
by David P. Greisman
Junior welterweight titleholder Terence Crawford was formally arrested Friday morning after turning himself in to police, who had been investigating an alleged incident involving Crawford at a local body shop, according to the Omaha World-Herald.
Crawford is facing four misdemeanor counts: theft of services, criminal mischief, third-degree assault and trespassing, according to the newspaper. He is free and due back in court in May.
The allegations date back to last week, when Crawford was part of a group that arrived at the body shop to retrieve his vehicle. The body shop owner, however, says that Crawford still owed money for the service. Crawford’s lawyer says that there was a disagreement between the fighter and owner about the paintwork that had been done and how much he was being charged.
Crawford allegedly went into the shop and brought his vehicle off a hydraulic lift, but in the process damaged the shop’s machine, according to the article.
The 28-year-old is 28-0 with 20 KOs. He held a world title at lightweight in 2014 before moving up to 140 pounds last year and capturing a belt there. He’s made two defenses since, including a February technical knockout of Henry Lundy, and is expected to have a unification bout with fellow titleholder Viktor Postol on July 23 in Las Vegas on pay-per-view.
