Source: The 30 Best-Selling Comic Book Series of All Time | Best Life

This list was made in 2018, idk if anything has significantly changed since then.

Note: X-men vol. 2 #1 (by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee) is the best selling single-issue of any comic, having sold over 8 million copies.

as expected, if you go off series made by a single author One piece would be NO.1

Facts. America is sleeping hard on One Piece. It's the GOAT shonen adventure manga.

:jbhmm:What is a somic?

If you're asking about Asterix, it's apparently a French comic set in 50 BC about a villager who protects his village from the Romans (under Julius Caesar's rule).
It's been running for decades and has been translated into over 100 ( :merchant: ) languages.

This list also further confirms what real ones already knew. Spider-man and X-men are the true crown jewels of Marvel, even though the movies want y'all to believe differently.
I'm a little shocked that Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and Fantastic Four didn't make the list though :mjcry:

Its pretty popular its just not DBZ/Naruto popular here
IMO OP was never going to blow up in the era it came up in even if you took 4kids out of the equation.
When OP came, anime/manga in America were wanted in certain types to be distanced from western shows. In aesthethic, theme tone, tropes, nonepisodic etc.

OP is different and unique where its like the Kingdom Hearts(never played a game just comparing concepts) of Manga/anime and it mixes western, eastern, Disney, shounen, etc aesthetics, and tropes. Plus its a series about Magical Pirates instead of Magical Ninjas(Naruto) and Magical martial artist(DBZ). Which people during that time wanted more of the latter than former

Plus OP has elements of being episodic, espescially in the first saga. So mix together the western cartoonish/Disney elements of wackiness in the show + the episodicness + other elements = popular but not as big as DBZ/Naruto in America. Im no anime/manga wiz, not even a fan. But I recall what series were popular and what made people in US, not pick up OP: it was either "to cartoony", "to wacky", "its about pirates, no thanks" etc But the series has grown in popularity in the US since then.
