That gimmick wasn't going to work because Emma seems more of a out of mind introvert. How in the hell you going to give a woman that does this:

A Marilyn Monroe type of gimmick?
She's cute enough to be self aware and purposefully offbeat and goofy. When she wants to turn it up, watch out.

Self awareness is the major difference between her face and heel gimmicks.

Make your new gimmick look shytty so they let you use your old one instead

I really hope this was her move, here. She had just settled into a character that had room to grow. She came with a really cheesy gimmick; dancing Aussie chick who had a goofy accent and buddied up with Santino. Fans enjoyed it for what it was, but there was no future in that.

So when Paige, and then especially the 4 Horse Women started passing her by, she became bitter.

She was kinda like a female twist on HHH right before DX when he brought in Chyna as this weird Dominatrix/BodyBuilder/BodyGuard hybrid and slowly started drifting away from that limp-wristed, fluffy robed blue-blood shyt. Before we knew it we had fully defined heel HHH, with iron crosses and skulls on his gear, coming out to metal songs.

Emma changed her look. Darker blonde hair, cooler music, no dancing, leather gloves and aviators. Had the bytchy bodybuilder sidekick that everyone hated. It could've worked. When she returned from injury all they had to do was use Emma to steal back Dana from Charlotte to screw Charlotte out of the title against Sasha or Bayley and boom, you've created a new tweener character that can be either heel/face depending on who they're facing.

Instead they suspended Eva and try to pass her vapid, model-who-can't-wrestle gimmick to Emma, not realizing the only reason Eva had that gimmick is because that's kinda who she is.

WWE has to eventually learn from shyt like this and the peak-Roman sympathetic babyface push days and stop trying to force wrestlers into changing their character when the old one was working fine.

Good. She's talented, naturally and fashionably attractive, and this is the heel persona she sharpened on NXT.

Just put her out there, let her gain a reputation for the wrestling ability she has possessed for so long, and she will settle in.

Brass act like they don't know how to use her, she could be killing Smackdown as a miniboss heel, and they can activate goofy face Emma down the line.

It's really mindboggling that her and Paige _really_ started the women's revolution in WWE...and they overpushed Paige, and left Emma in the bushes, likely because of her relationship with Zack Ryder.

Yeah, something is to be said for working with your talent and letting them tell you what kind of character they are comfortable or excel at portraying. Even the short minute we got to see Emmalina, it was clear that ain't her lane and to try to force that hope she "grows into it" is a huge waste of time that might not pay off.
