i think the future is what jay z and kanye did with those samsung and google deals. Although i dont get how that investment those huge corporations do makes profit for them

fools look to tv & radio decide whats good music and we know major record labels dont give a shyt about CREATIVITY and TALENT.They never have but these days its at a all time high and it clearly shows.they are more concerned about what a artist look like more than the music.

if you dont understand that then i dont know what else to tell you.
How do you know people aren't listening to what they actually like?

JMy issue is with the record companies..

if they know the ALBUN FORMAT is a dying format...why not restructure the deals?

They keep offering album deals to artist they have no intention of promoting albums for

That 2 million dollar budget Def Jam greenlit for Trinidad James ia a prime example

with overhead and recoupable expenses he will neber be able to cover that debt

Yea that was wild giving that nikka 2 million just because he had 1 hot song

Especially when it was only 1 hot track out of a 10 track mixtape, most people cannot even name more than 1 Trinidad James song and he got 20 out now

Just goes to show how these labels are now, and their current model is killing them

They dont believe in developing talent anymore, they expect artists to get themselves hot with no money or real outlet besides the internet and the ones who manage to do so they throw a ridiculous amount of money their way

Another reason albums dont sell like that anymore is release dates dont mean anything anymore

Not even talkin bout the obvious, damn near every rapper's album getting pushed back to the point fans dont even take release dates seriously anymore when an artist announces them

Now if a nikka say his album droppin in June you'd be lucky to get it by end of the year

Also, there was a time when your favorite artists releasing an album was like Christmas, u couldn't wait till that day and would rush to the store to cop having no clue what it would sound like

Nowadays fans cant wait that long and want that early leak and most rappers and/or their camps provide those early leaks so by the time the album actually does drop it's already old news

Who will be excited for Christmas when they already opened their gifts a week after Thanksgiving?

digital is taking over and ppl are downloading single songs rather than full albums. plus who the hell wanna spend 10-20$ when money is tight for a majority of americans when they can listen to it on youtube for free.

the dude who was responisble for trinidad james deal was actually fired a little after (not sure if it was related to that though)

tha nikka trinidad has no support anymore :russ:

Trinidad James selling point after his single was no longer hot was his humility

When he was a nikka who came from struggling with a 9-5 and decided to start rapping and made a single that took him out of poverty

Wack as we was son was an inspiration and when he was humble he was more marketable, people will take someone they can relate to any day

Then he started gettin out of pocket now he's done

people say itunes and netflix and all that ish is the future but still....imagine 20 years from now looking over at your tv and instead of seeing your collection of blu rays, cds, games it'll just be the tv and a hard drive. ..instead of looking at your shelf and seeing the gkmc deluxe edition and game of thrones box set you have to start up your tv and see a bland ass HBO GO link and spotify or whatever.

people value more the things they can hold and even though you cant "hold" the music you can hold the cd. anything you can get for free is automatically worth less by default. even before downloading when you had to go in an actual store to steal a cd it held value cause it was atleast risky. theres zero risk in torrenting so you get less of a connection with the music. no pain no gain, even if that pain is just working at mcdonalds, earning $15 and driving to the store. :manny: less connection = less sales = less quality -> repeat

Eventually I could see the entire music industry go the way of Spotify, Rdio, etc. You know, streaming services. Everyone will pay a monthly fee for unlimited access to all types of music and the artists/albums most frequently listened to will generate more in ad revenue.

This is real rap

Part of the fun in a new album dropping was going to pick it up

Sitting on a computer and downloading it a few weeks before it drops takes away the excitement

Also why mixtapes are not as exciting as they used to be

When something is free it doesn't have the same effect

People tend to expect free mixtapes nowadays but forget there was a time not too long ago when you had to pay for mixtapes too

They have begun restructuring deals... & Trinidad James lied about how much he signed for. Dude got less then $100k upfront because it was a SINGLE deal that was WORTH $2 Mil (in the end an album) *IF* he completed all his options in his contract which he has not. These artists are allowed to lie about their deals & overcook the numbers because it adds to the their perception which equals more dollars in the end. I have a friend in talks right now with Atlantic & his new "Standard" deal includes a $250,000 budget with ZERO physical manufacturing until he can prove to move over 100,000 Digital Albums off of iTunes. They're bringing back "Artist Development" because the internet has made so many people lazy that these artists get signed off of strictly how hot they are on Social Media but then don't want to put in any real work (Chief Keef for example... didn't show up to his own signing party or video shoot) so they've been signing artists to lower deals with lower expectations and are allowing them to grow & develop a fanbase by releasing Digital EP's, being opening slots on bigger artists tours & all have an opportunity to put out a physical album once they've proven they're big enough to.

Look for a LOT of new acts to drop EP's before albums & now Digital Albums before Physical ones... Justin Bieber & Trey Songz showed labels a new model of how this can work & they've been adapting. Sevyn Streeter just dropped an EP that's hovering around 50k Sales total right now off of 1 Single. When she drops her new Single if she passes the 100k mark Atlantic will reward her an album. It's a lot of artists that came out last year under this new method & some have failed horribly (Mayer Hawthorne & Jay Sean for example) while a few artists like Sevyn are growing in popularity & demand...

It's a great thing because it allows both underground & mainstream to pick & choose their future Stars... but these complaining ass underground nikkas gotta start supporting or else we'll just see more of the same caliber of artists we've been seeing...

I keep telling nikkas Koreans are going to take over the us pop scene with k-pop.

They are doing the same thing that the Joseph Jackson's, Lou pearlmans were doing with talent development camps where kids spend years perfecting their craft.

Their already making r&b music over there and it's already starting to trickle into the us.

I mean people fail to realize that things like the Mickey Mouse club were like camps for these kids in the u.s. to prepare them for stardom.

The new wave of artist got half ass treatment in turn creating a half ass product labels don't spend money on artist development for the exception of warner brothers who coincidentally co own the camps in Korea and Disney who has since started their own label awhile back.

It's all laziness, really. It's exchanging the love for convenience. The convenience of not having to leave the house (itunes) or the convenience of not having to work to pay for it (torrents).

I mean, when you think of it like that how much love can you have for something if you avoid spending money on it like the plague? Or going out of your way to get it? Especially when it's so cheap..

It's like how when I was younger I'd go over my friends house who had more money than me who'd have their fridges filled to capacity with all types of deliciousness. They'd have a freezer fulla hot pockets and claim they love them but when its time to eat they had the 'meh' face cause it was always readily available for no cost to them while i'd be munching on the side like :ahh:. That's music now, an unlimited fridge full of "not bad, but could be better" food.
