ROUND 150 million people began a two-day general strike in India today against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s anti-Labour and anti-trade union policies in India.

Workers from both the public and private sectors were joined by teachers and students from across the country, forming possibly largest strike in history.

Below are a selection of AP photographs from today’s general strike.

Mumbai: Trade union activists demonstrate, march and wave communist flags on the first day of a two-day general strike.

150 million people on strike would shut down the US. There's 330 million in US.
150 million people on strike is a minor inconvenience in India. There's 1.3 billion in India.
Amazing.

Who would have thought? Brazil and India trying to become more capitalist and U.S. trying to become more socialist. These are interesting times. :win:

People talk shyt on black americans, but the world follows us in so many ways

I hope they do their thing, and continue to fight for more rights

India is a fascinating place. If I were wealthy I would spend like 6 months there traveling to every corner of the country.

Every time I see a story/picture/video it just looks so frantic, electric, slightly unnerving and loud. To have so many people, with so many different ethnic backgrounds, in such relatively confined areas. All of the strife. A protest involves tens of millions of people. Women locking arms forming a line hundreds of miles long :dwillhuh: when in the US we can’t even form a proper line going into the club. People dodging gunfire walking miles to vote. The caste system :wtf:. The Muslim/Hindu wars. Women getting gang raped and their families killing them bc of “dishonor” or thirsty dudes throwing acid in their faces :damn:.

At the same time their history is crazy!

The women in their ancient art are so ahead of their time. Female fertility statutes at Hindu temples = same body type as your favorite instagram thot :leon:

Might have to make its own thread. :jbhmm:
