The battle of the European giants is upon us. The club with the most UCL/EC wins (Real Madrid - 13) vs the club with the 3rd most wins (Liverpool - 6). Los Blancos vs the Reds. European football pedigree of the highest order
Does Real Madrid win their 14th EC/UCL Final and complete the League/UCL double or does Liverpool get revenge for the 2018 final and in doing so, complete a cup treble and draw level with AC Milan with 7 EC/UCL wins? All will be sorted out tomorrow.
Fun Facts / Things to watch for:
My prediction: Liverpool win, 3-2 AET. MoTM: Luis Diaz
- This will be the 3rd time these two clubs have met in a UCL/EC Final with the score evenly split at 1 win apiece. Liverpool first beat Real Madrid back in the 1981 EC Final in Paris, which was also the last time Real Madrid lost a EC final and was one of just three of their EC final losses. Real Madrid returned the favor in 2018 with their win in Kyiv and in doing so, completed the first UCL 3-Peat. Will we see a repeat of 1981 seeing as this final is also in Paris or does Real Madrid move to 8-0 in UCL finals?
- Both Benzema and Mané have had amazing seasons for their clubs and each has been tipped as a potential winner of this year's Balon'Dor. Their performance in this final could cement their case to take home football's greatest individual prize.
- With a Real Madrid win, Ancelotti would sit alone within the rankings of managers with the most UCL/EC wins with 4. He's currently tied with Paisley and Zizou on 3 wins. A win for Liverpool would see Klopp claim his second UCL title and move level with his Premier league counterpart Guardiola.
- This will be Ancelotti's 3rd time facing Liverpool in a UCL final, twice with AC Milan and the first with Real Madrid. This will be Klopp's 2nd UCL final against Real Madrid.
My prediction: Liverpool win, 3-2 AET. MoTM: Luis Diaz
