Surely the money can be funneled into local/national businesses, with wink deals for them to ‘donate’ to NIL. :sas1:

The leaders and best :umad:
Schools generally cannot freely use endowment money for local businesses, as endowments are primarily restricted by donor intent for specific purposes like scholarships, research, or facility maintenance

Y'all have ~$20B endowment already, if you wanted or needed it for NIL they would've done it by now. You know the academic side would tweak tf out if $500M of potential research money went to paying hoopers and quarterbacks lol

Unc...idk man...not sure 40 year old knees holding up

This is much different than a current NBA bench player going to LA fitness and lighting up dudes that might've played varsity HS

Former NBA players are getting cooked by a guy who barely played at FAMU in one-on-ones.

Not downplaying playing in the pros but Father Time is undefeated

Depends on the former player, but generally, yes.

Remember when MJ cooked OJ Mayo at a camp when Jordan was like 46 and Mayo was the #1 recruit in the country

...the initial post citing this was joking then then everyone started running with it. Imo, if they wanted to use endowment funds towards NIL, they would've done it/be doing it,an extra $2B when they have $20B already doesn't seem like it would change it, plus they can easily raise NIL funds from ample donors without touching the endowment.

With that said, who knows...they could if they wanted to, I'd imagine :yeshrug:

Academics & research vs. athletics debate aside, winning big increases applications and such. I'd imagine some managers of said fund would be weighing that against how much more they could make by re-investing the funds or investing the funds into the health system or whatever # of other revenue sources

$500M to specifically NIL would change the landscape of college sports even more...you'd see a lot of schools pushing for "caps" and such immediately
