I exclusively do video. Storage prices have forced me to add a 60 day limit on storing client footage. If we don’t have an active project, after 60 days, I’m deleting the raw footage.
you don’t even owe them that. My contact says source files retained for days after delivery of completed project.

Videographers are fukked though
I edit off a 2 TB ssd, I store some things on a 4TB HDD. Outside of 2 corp clients who purchase additional edits later, I delete everything. Those clients account for about 30 GB.

After switching to the HDD strategy for storage and not editing, the only inconvenience is the backup will take 10 mins and not 4 minutes.

100% correct.
My contracts state we don’t transfer raw footage or guarantee archival of any footage after approval of the final edit.
I only recently started adding the 60 day statement to reinforce clearly that things are actually going to be deleted.
File sizes are too large, storage space is too expensive, and I’ve never been a fan of digging through old stuff anyway. I always prefer to shoot new content for every project and if I need old shots for a year in review or something, I’ll just pull that from the final edit videos, not from the raw files.

fuji is the new leica, for no reason. i'm lucky i have my xpro2 still and x100. i got my xpro2 for 700 like 4 yrs ago, prolly sell for 1000 or more now.
I mean we have higher input costs and tariffs so I get that, but I wouldn't call them Leica in any sense. Even their monochromes starting at 7k are basically home downpayments. Fuji is 1/5 the cost for similar products while having an old school aesthetic and physical dials.

i'm not sayin it on a dollar amount, more so on the fact that the bodies are holding value and sometimes going for more. i can get a bum ass sony a7iIi for way les than it was retail. x-t3 going for 8-9, i paid 8 for mine back in 2020

I got a UGREEN NAS in December with 6 bays, had to start with 48TBs because the cost for the drives were :whoo: I grabbed 2 NVME SSDs for editing and caching from the NAS.

My old portable SSDs can now be backed up and I have multiple decent size fast drives for editing moving forward.

I've seen the light

:blessed:

she passed away yesterday. Exactly 1 year after this photo on April 5, 2025. ☹️
