He may be the best sparring partner turned fighter turned contender turned champion in boxing history. A fight between him and Holyfield would have been a hell of a brawl

That might be Larry Holmes. He started off as a sparring partner for Ali, helped him prepare for Foreman.
All pro fighters are sparring partners. Ron Lyle used to work with Frazier and Ali. Larry Holmes had an amateur carerc. I don't think McCall had it like Holmes.
