The Oakland Raiders were 30th in the league in sacks during the 2014 season, but they will try to improve on that disappointing total in 2015 without the services of defensive lineman Antonio Smith.

The Raiders confirmed on Tuesday that the team released the 33-year-old after only a single season in Oakland. Smith's release saves the Raiders $4 million in cap space, per OverTheCap.com.

Smith played all 16 games for the Raiders last year and finished with three sacks and a forced fumble. He also helped plug the middle against run plays and opened up lanes for his teammates on the outside to pursue the running back.

Smith played with the Arizona Cardinals and the Houston Texans before coming to Oakland and appeared in all 16 games in every single season since 2006 except one, when he played in 15 games in 2013. His durability is impressive, but the Raiders are attempting to get younger, save some money and rebuild after a string of lackluster seasons.

CRABTREE TO VISIT THE RAIDERS NEXT WEEK:: TOOK LONG ENOUGH... HE BETTER NOT LEAVE THE BUILDING

It appears the Oakland Raiders and Michael Crabtree – both needy in their own right -- are considering a pairing. Yahoo! Sports reported that the free-agent wide receiver from San Francisco will visit the Raiders next week.

What took so long?

Wide receiver is arguably the Raiders' biggest need. They have failed to add a receiver in free agency, even though they were targeting the likes of Randall Cobb and Jeremy Maclin early in the process. Crabtree's market has been nearly nonexistent. He has had a couple of bites, but nothing substantial.

James Jones, who led Oakland with 73 catches for 666 yards, but doesn't have game-breaking speed.

If Oakland does sign Crabtree, it would still very likely draft a receiver early. Crabtree wouldn't change the position, but he would lengthen the Raiders' talent at receiver and he'd be another polished weapon for young quarterback Derek Carr. At this point, it seems, neither the Raiders nor Crabtree have better options. A signing may be worth a shot.

Told yall. Been saying he'd be a good signing since last year. He has no market right now and he'd absolutely have something to prove next year if he wants a big contract.

Heed Breed.
Crabs is much better. Streater has only been in the league because he's on the raiders.

There is a reason he hasn't been signed yet.

he came in the league running a 4.5, he got injured, and is now even slower.

49ers even admitted he had a mental breakdown and never been the same.

Richard Sherman ruined his life.
