All these dudes cryin' about current gen should just sell their consoles and hang up the gaming for good. :royalcamby:
Mario 64
Uncharted.
Neither one of those was generation defining
The game also set many precedents for 3D platformers to follow.[8][59] GameDaily listed the game as one of the "Most Influential Video Games" and stated it "defined the 3-D platform experience, influencing numerous designers to create their own, original offerings".[60] GamesTM noted many game companies, including Nintendo, have tried to develop a platform game to match up to Super Mario 64.[61] Super Mario 64 is notable for its sense of freedom and non-linearity. A central hub, where controls can be learned before entering levels themselves, has been used in many 3D platformers since. In addition, the game's mission-based level design is an inspiration for other game designers. For example, Martin Hollis, who produced and directed GoldenEye 007, says "the idea for the huge variety of missions within a level came from Super Mario 64".[62]
Super Mario 64 was the first game to have a "free" camera that could be controlled independently of the character.[59] Most 3D games at the time used a first-person perspective, or a camera that was fixed in position relative to the player's character, or to the level. To create freedom of exploration, and more fluid control in a 3D world, the designers created a dynamic system in which the video camera was operated by the in-game character Lakitu.[19] Nintendo Power stated the camera-control scheme was what transitioned platform games into the 3D era.[63] They would again cite Super Mario 64, along with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, as two games that "blazed trails" into the 3D era.[64] Edge stated the game changed "gamers' expectations of 3D movement forever".[57] The camera system would become the standard for 3D platform games in the future.[17] The Nintendo 64's analog stick allows for more precise and wide-ranging character movements than the digital D-pads of other consoles, and Super Mario 64 uses this in a way that was unique for its time. At the time, 3D games generally allowed for controls in which the player could either control the character in relation to a fixed camera angle or in relation to the character's perspective. Super Mario 64's controls are fully analog, and interpret a 360-degree range of motion into navigation through a 3D space relative to the camera. The analog stick also allows for precise control over subtleties such as the speed at which Mario runs. Super Mario 64 was of the first games to implement the system.[65
Mario 64 wasn't generation defining??
Mario 64 has had a big ass impact on 3d games till this day.

Yo brehs we gotta be real for a second here. I don't think the OP is saying there hasn't been any great games this generation so far. He's saying that compared to the first year of previous gens, there were always games that had a HUGE impact on the system going forward. On PS2 you had the obvious games such as GTA 3, ICO, FFX; Xbox you had Halo; Gamecube you had Smash Bros Melee and Metroid Prime; 360 you had Gears of War 1; PS3 you had uhh Uncharted 1.
Thus far this gen has had great games but due to a lot of them being either cross-gen games, remakes/remasters some folks don't really count them as original titles. We pretty much only have next month late so that leaves LittlebigPlanet 3? Call of Duty:AW?? Even then the latter title is cross gen. Unless Sunset Overdrive becomes some huge title which I doubt.

Mario 64 has been dubbed by Mario stans as overrated and was just something to play since it was the only thing. Nobody goes back and plays it the way you would do super mario bros 3 or world. I would say mario kart 64 had more of an impact than 64
Outside of Halo(FPS console defining game) and GTAIII(open world sandbox) nothing on that list is impactful. You dudes are really going hard on this shyt like all the past generations had killer apps year one.
It's called Capri Sunset Crazy Taxi.I'll be honest, it's really because both of the consoles jumped the gun with their system releases before developers were ready. The developers were ill prepared or just didn't know what to do with either system. Look at Ubisoft, they are still releasing games for 360 and PS3 (Rouge). While trying to put out PS4 and Xbox parity AC games. (Unity) And they have all noticed how starving we are for games so they are re-releasing games because they know we will buy them...(GTA V and Sleeping Dogs) It's a different era and developers know like crack addicts we will buy whatever they put out. (Titanfall and Destiny) They don't even have to be great games, just good to semi good games plus a nice marketing plan. The great games are going to have to come from the Indies and not the big developers. I'm still going to buy Unity because I need it, but it doesn't mean I'm happy about the politics going on in the industry.
I think Overdrive Sunkiss or whatever it is called on Xbox Juan is going to be a hit tho. It looks fun.
Because Mario 64 and Sonic weren't sequelsPeople dont wanna admit but this gen has been WEAK as fukk.
Less studios, bigger budgets, less creativity due to studios not taking risks because of production costs.
Even looking ahead. Sure theirs some solid games but its all old hat. Sequels, sequels, morre sequels and clones of other popular games with slight tweaks.
Another halo. Another uncharted. Another witcher. Another dragon age. Another littlebigplanet.
Ive yet to see a game that made mebecause it looks so original and fresh.
This has so far been the most creatively bankrupt gen. Its just the same games but with nicer graphics.

Mario 64 was a big turning point in games. I mean breh it was like the biggest 3d platformer out at the time. I'm not comparing replay value or rating of the game.

This is by far the most ridiculous thing I have ever read on this entire forum this year.![]()
