my grandmother used to talk about how times square was a hellhole in the 70s. in the 80s cracked out zombies used to always be walking up and down Manhattan.

I remember those times as a kid. It's great in retrospect but not living through. There was a point when NYC was averaging over 2000 murders a year. I lost 5 friends from that shyt. The south Bronx used to look like a bombed out third world country. Robberies everywhere, harlem was a giant crack spot and you couldnt have a car that wasnt broke into. So much creativity came from that era, no doubt, but nikkas was damn near about to burn the whole city down.

it sort of reminds me of new orleans now, minus the plethora of (artistic) graffiti and big buildings. plus, this city has more of a festive tinge to it. so i'd call this place the organic punk city, not cyber...

Those pictures do a great job of catching how the city was. Was waiting for one of them dudes from the Warriors to pop up in one of them pics.

Dope Thread.

:ohhh:

I love shyt like this..

Growing up during this era was crazy..

It really looked like this. Decadence and degradation was everywhere. Times Square was filthy and the trains were filled with tags..

The bums were crazier back then too in my opinion..They would flip on you in a heartbeat..
