On September 18th, the Defending NFC Champs, the Carolina Panthers will have their home opener against the undefeated San Francisco 49ers (1-0
). This game brings together two very distinct ideologies from two very polarizing figures in the NFL today which will prolly overshadow the actual action on the field. The backup QB for the 49ers Colin Kaepernick has started a firestorm for his brave and bold protest of the National Anthem due to the unfair police brutality to Blacks in America. His refusal to stand for the anthem has raised the issue of injustice and patriotism which has started a league wide conversation that naturally involved the reigning league MVP Cam Newton. Cam pretty much hit the "Juelz Santana"
The scene in Charlotte will be interesting Sunday to see how the fanbase in Bank Of America stadium will react to Kaepernick’s continued protest as he refuses to stand in support of his beliefs and social issues yet support the hometown QB who refuses to take a stand on those very same social issues. :pantherswow:
Now on the Football side of things, this game also pits two top 10 draft pick quarterbacks from the 2011 draft class against each other, as the #1 Overall draft pick and reigning MVP Cam Newton meets the 10th overall pick Blain Gabbert. Their careers have gone in complete opposite directions despite what most draft gurus predicted :newtonmad:; Gabbert is now with his second NFL team, while Cam has established himself as an elite QB.
The Panthers look to bounce back from their week one loss against the Super Bowl champs, Denver Broncos. And the 49ers look to extend their winning ways after a 28-point beat down of the LA Rams. The 49ers look to control the tempo with RB Carlos Hyde, while Carolina hopes for increased chemistry in their passing game as Benjamin gets back into season-form.
