That’s an incredible figure, if true.
Considering the fact that it was our sperm that got to the egg first and that we were able to live past one years of age, we are incredibly lucky to be here. The odds has to be one out of one million or something.

On the flip side, it’s incredibly sad that even knowing those odds at life, we do some fukked up things to one another.

Just being born and not dying during birth is a major feat.

And life expectancy at birth probably only averaged between 10 and 12 years old for most of human history. Sociobiologists feel that in a hunting gathering society excessive birth rates and infants would sometimes be seen as threat to survival. So there is conjecture that a lot of the infant mortality was actually due to infanticide, not disease or birth defect.
