The chart shows decreases in 2016 and 2017 fam.

No one argued about the "biggest" decreases.

The statement that there was an uptick in incarceration that offsets this clemency is false.

Maybe so but until it does then we should be careful about speaking in absolutes.

I’m only speaking on things he and his DOJ have said and released themselves. Not to mention actions they have already taken.

So you made a PREDICTION that you posted as fact.

You're deducing something that hasn't or may not occur yet which is fine but presenting it as a absolute makes it easier for those same folks to discredit.

Eh trying to avoid a pointless back and forth but the chart is a growth+decrease chart. So the fact 2017 shows a smaller difference between the growth and decrease compared to 2016 means, that either incarceration numbers are rising compared to years before or those being released is decreasing leading to a smaller difference between the two compared 2016.

It means from Obama to Trump there is either a rising incarceration number or less people being released. Either one is a sign that it may be a policy change in the Trump administration that has stopped the downward trend you saw from 2014 to 2016. It was trending downward and now it is trending back upwards under Trump. Just one year as a data point however isn't enough to draw a statistical trend but if 2018 bar shows even a smaller decrease then you can make an educated guess that Trump's policies are leading to a higher incarceration rate.

Justice Department rolls back guidance on fining poor defendants - CNNPolitics

DOJ: Rolling back Obama-era marijuana rules a 'return to the rule of law'

U.S. Justice Department orders tougher criminal punishments

How much of this is due to his policies or changes and what will this mean for what his administration plans? The article even states that it remains to be seen of this trend continues with his administrations policies. You know, most administrations changes don’t take effect until years later. All most all of the good things he took credit for were residual from the previous one.

I do agree about the drug thing...but honestly its hard for me to sympathize with these situations....once upon a time I was on federal and state probation from breaking the law....it sucked and and I said I would never do silly shyt again...I haven't and will continue to do so, so this doesn't affect me or the people I associate with....

It a 2 way street

If someone is rolling back laws and protections that disproportionately effect the poor and people of color, would that not send more people to prison? These things have already happened. We will have to wait to see numbers but I don’t see how that made what I said not true. I should have said “they would possibly or probably”. That’s it. I already posted things already happening.

Nah, we're just interpreting the data differently

In short it shows incarceration rates are increasing or releases are slowing down relative to previous years. Look at the year to year trend. :yeshrug: let's say the chart was spread out for three more years, you'll see the bars get closer year over year to being green if not become green if the trend continued.

But no point on going back and forth .just saying!:hubie:
