I see a lot of threads posted by Coli users where they aren't too sure what they want to do with their life, or their current situation is eating away at them.... My ultimate goal in life is to one day become a motivational speaker, so I wanted to make this thread to drop some pointers / inspiration for anyone who needs it right now:
First off, if you were born between 1982 and 2004.... you are deemed a "Millennial" by the people who make up the different generations (baby boomer etc)... If you don't read another WORD in this thread, know this: ALL Millennials got it BAD.... it's not just you.... So even if you don't read another word, it should make you feel better knowing that 90% of this age group is going through what you're going through.
You can go to Forbes.com and type in the word "millennials" in the search and pull up all types of articles, but I'll post some main ones at the bottom also...
-------------------
I'm just going to list some random points, and hopefully something in here will be helpful to you:
-First off, if you don't know what you want to do with your life or what makes you happy, it's a 100000% chance nobody else does. Nobody can even began to help you or give you proper advice if YOU DON'T know what makes you happy.... So the next time you are about to fire up Madden... Maybe fire up a blunt instead, and write down what you think will bring you ULTIMATE happiness in life.
-Writing down your thoughts / plans is always a good thing... It's like studying for a test, the more times you go over it, the more likely you'll be able to remember and execute.
-I want you to read this and read this VERY carefully: There are ways to make money on this planet without working a 9 to 5 for another person.... Did you know that? If you hate what you do or how much you make, why haven't you explored the idea of starting your own business? I don't have numbers, but I'm willing to bet anyone on this Earth can start their own successful business within 4 years, the same time it takes to go to college.... Only thing about college is you have to build up debt, not make a DIME for 4 years, and get out and you might be LUCKY to get a job... Instead of starting your own business yourself, and you might be making money by year 1 instead of year 5....
I don't care what it is... Mowing lawns... Grooming dogs... Doing taxes... Cutting hair... A moving company.... Cleaning carpets... whatever..... If there is a PROBLEM out there that people have, they will PAY YOU to solve it...
I read a quote on twitter that said: "If you don't build your dreams... Somebody else will hire you to build theirs".... Best quote I've ever read... Since it's basically life summed up in 10 or so words.... YOU have to figure out what side of the coin YOU want to be on... It's heads or tails... Black and white.... THERE IS NO 3RD OPTION..... THERE IS NO 3RD OPTION!!
-53% of college graduates either work a job that doesn't require a degree, or are outright unemployed.... This is a fact... That's MORE than half... Honestly, does anything else even need to be said about this? Times have changed... Use your head and be smart and don't follow tradition sheepishly.
-It's normal to not know exactly what you want to do in life, and battle all types of emotions, frustrated with yourself and not knowing which way to go.... I have a brother go from: I want to be a barber, to a policeman, to a fire fighter, to a bail bondsman, to a chef, to joining the military, to starting his own hauling business etc... I'm sure it may have changed again by now... And he's in his 30's...
So again, it's normal to flip flop... but the sooner you figure out what you want to do, the better.
-Ask yourself: Am I passionate about money? Or am I passionate about a particular trade / business type?
If it's all about the money, figure out how much money you must make AFTER TAXES to live your life happy and comfortably like you want.... That should include saving, bills, leisure, EVERYTHING.... Once you know that amount, figure out what field you can go in or what business you can start to make 125% of that amount (extra 25% because cushion is always good)... Once you set this target, land that job or start that business, you will be a much happier person and out of the rat race.
-Distance yourself from friends / people / family who are not conducive to the type of mindset you want to have and type of life you want to live.... I have friends I knew since 7th grade... Love em like a brother.... But right now, I don't talk to them... All they want to do is sit around, smoke weed and play Madden all day... I'll link up with them sometime down the line, but right now they can't exist to me...
50 Cent said his Grand Dad told him: "You're only going to be as successful as the company you keep... ".. So if you are around 5 bums all day, you're GUARANTEED to be a bum yourself... They also say, you're going to be like the 5 people you're around the most.... Figure out who those 5 people are, and make changes if necessary...
Even subtle changes can change your life.... For instance: I deleted every rapper off my twitter account, and added entreprenuers, Forbes, millionaires, billionaires, people who talk business / positive etc... The information you get will subconsciously change your outlook on things, as you're now fukking with a different type caliber of human being.... Getting a powerful quote from Bill Gates is going to go a long way to shape your life, laughing at some shyt Meek Mill said might bring you joy for 5 seconds,, but at the end of the day, he rich and you broke..... #ThinkAbout it
-Figure out ways to motivate yourself and stay motivated... It's normal to have down days no matter what, but as long as you bounce back, it's just part of the process... Ways I motivate myself: Writing down my dream life, what I'd love to have... Anytime I look at this list, I know what I have to do to accomplish it.. and it helps me stay motivated to getting it done.
-Though plotting and planning at all times is the way to go... Don't be suprised if you just stumble upon something unexpectedly.... Marlyn Wayans said a great quote one time: "After that first door close, most people are so upset with tears in they eyes, they can't see the other 1,000 doors open up" ... Translation: If one opportunity fails, don't get down and out... Look closely, because another opportunity might be right there in front of your face.. (I've experienced this PERSONALLY...)
-My last point for now... This is another quote I read that changed me: "Saving money is just as important as making money".... I thought about it... I used to chase, chase, chase money... And I'd make it... But then in 2 weeks I'm flat broke and wondering what the hell is going on... I didn't / wasn't saving... So its basically like I'm back to square one and have to make the money ALL OVER again.... If you SAVE money, you actually need to make less money... (but the more you make the merrier of course).... Think about it, open some savings accounts, and start getting it in.
That's it for right now... I will add on at a future date, any new points I think of... The best take away you should have from this is: As DOWN AND OUT as you might be, there is not only someone somewhere going through the same thing, there are MILLIONS of them.... So all you can do is keep fighting, keep planning, figure out your ultimate goal in life, write down your plan to get there, and execute... Read the plan everyday if you need to until it's memorized...
But at the end of the day, you are the only person responsible for your life... The only options you really have, when it boils down to it is: 1) Kill yourself... 2) Get strung out on a drug... 3) Settle for less than your dream and die living most of your years miserable..... or 4) Chase your ULTIMATE goal non stop, until you get there, and die a happy man / woman.
It's up to you.... Nobody else can control it... Start brain storming, plotting and planning... And with enough hard work, you WILL get to where you want to be eventually... It's no luck involved, it's guaranteed.

I been on this mindset for a year now bruh. I know what I want out of life, what I want to do with the rest of my life, and how to accomplish it. Had to take a year off from school to figure it out, but I did and I'm not looking back once I start the journey. The main thing I've been working on is staying positive through the bullshyt, lost a kush job a week before the government shutdown and my bread hasn't been right since. But I do know that continuing my journey is the only way for me to succeed, even if I feel like I'm behind my peers around me who have graduated and are starting their careers.
