I was told most black men living in the west coast are either homeless, in the military, own a business, or gangbanging because jobs dont pay for the high cost of living
well i learned a bit about local black history when i lived there. they had the vanport and albina neighborhoods. vanport was destroyed through a flood (they didnt build it worth a fukk cause they didnt care about those people) and albina was eventually taken over by cacs. theres still Woodlawn/dekum triangle but i dunno how gentrified it is these days... alberta street is gentrified all to hell. the state of oregon did not want to allow blacks in period. the rest of oregon is pretty terrible, if your town isnt on/in the I-5/willamette river/valley (portland, salem, eugene, etc), youre in a bad place. even my brown ass got shyt yelled at from clackamas county rednecks... estacada was nasty. they had a bar in their downtown area with rebel flags in the window. you woulda thought you were in south carolina. i had hopped on the wrong bus (i was trying to get to Sandy) and ended up in Estacada. this group of white kids walked up to me and i started getting nervous, but they just wanted me to buy them a pack of cigarettes with my license (they were 17)
in the modern day i get the impression that pretty much no one under six figures can live in the city limits. everybody working class has been pushed to east portland and gresham. that's where i'd want to live. east powell could get a lil nasty but compared to bigger cities with real hoods it aint much of a problem.
might wanna learn some spanish though!
(sorry for my rambling, i never get to talk about this stuff)
