first off this soundtrack is in my top 3 of my favorite albums of all time. i can listen to it at any given time; day or night and keep it on repeat. everything about this album is perfect from the songwritin', to the sequencin', to the arrangements, to the production and so on. curtis mayfield was a brilliant artist with so much talent. this album is the definition of classic in every sense of the word!:ohlawd:

i forgot about cam'ron's d rugs song that sampled from and interpolated the chorus from pusherman... it also sampled willie hutch's mother's theme too

Sadly, several of those songs took his socially-aware music and twisted it for use in songs that had the exact opposite, negative message.

true but then the precursor of that was curtis mayfield was goin' to bat for the super fly movie. a lot of people back then felt that movie was just feedin' into stereotypes but he stood up for it even though the super fly soundtrack was socially aware.

he even had this to say from the article i posted in my original post:

“I don’t see why people are complaining about the subject of these films,” Curtis Mayfield told Jet magazine in October 1972 in a statement that foreshadows the words of modern-day rappers. “The way you clean up the films is by cleaning up the streets. The music and movies of today are the conditions that exist. You change music and movies by changing the conditions.”

:banderas:I missed the essence of a soundtrack. Superfly pretty much birthed a good portion of 90s hip hop. So many layers on that album its not even funny. Curtis Mayfield was so ahead of his time. Dude started his first album with this shyt:

"Uneducated fools from uneducated schools"
Dude knew what was coming :lupe:
