What do you gotta look for when you buying an old used car?

It's always time versus money. Understand that if you are not trying to spend money, which obviously you aren't, just know that you're going to spend a lot of time. Do your research, and know exactly what car you're looking for. The last thing you want to do is show up on the lot and just pick any old car, even if you're with a mechanic.

A car may be smooth on the test drive, and may not have any problems when you first buy it, but if you do your research, you might find out that car has a history of transmission issues, or some other expensive problem that is built into the design of one of the components.

use sites like Edmunds for reviews, and check sites like Kelley blue book for common complaints with the vehicle. After that, once you get there, you use the mechanic to check for any flood damage, frame damage, and any other problems that might be going on with that particular car.

Furthermore, check the car's history on sites like Carfax and VINcheck just to make sure the maintenance was done correctly, and you're not going to end up paying for the previous owners mistakes
