BLOOMFIELD — An unholy war of words has broken out between a Staten Island politician and an atheist group after he called people who don't believe in God "hateful and malicious."

State Sen. Andrew Lanza urged a Times Square boycott after American Atheists posted an ad in the Crossroads of the World stating "Nobody needs the 'Christ' in Christmas."

"While it is not surprising to me that people who do not believe in God are hateful and malicious," Lanza said in a statement, "I would have hoped that the people who own this billboard, those who live in Manhattan and around Times Square and the community’s political leaders, would have decried this hate speech as something not to be tolerated or allowed."

The atheist group hit back — posting their ad in Lanza's back yard and suggesting Lanza urge a similar boycott of Staten Island. Their seasonal message is now displayed on a digital billboard on the Goethals Bridge.

"Lanza had no problem calling for a boycott of Times Square because of our message,” said David Silverman, president of the group, in a statement.

“We are putting up this billboard as a challenge to Senator Lanza. Now the question is, was the senator posturing, or does he have the guts to call for a boycott in his own district?"

Honestly, I see no reason why people who don't believe in Jesus Christ as our Risen Lord and Savior celebrate Christmas or think they should have a say in what the true meaning is.

Every year I see more shyt about santa and gifts than I do about Jesus. You barely even hear anything religious now, like guy said above "shop shop shop" not to make it a race thing but I know most black households still talk about the religious part of christmas and white people make it all about costumes for the kids, santa, and gifts. I also hear them say Xmas all the time

No, my child knows about Jesus but dont know when he was really born. Christmas is a way to remember something that happened to a prophet cuz he fought to NOT keep His mouth shut.
He was Born in april, and Died in that month too.

You just confused the hell outta me, but whatever you believe (are u talking about prophet Isaiah?) does your kid believe santa still drops gifts? I see nothing wrong with that part, my dad ruined my christmas when i seen him putting gifts under the tree at 3am. I been bitter ever sine. Dude ruined my christmas spirit since I was 2

Santa only comes if my son earned it. Santa is about doing right through the year to receive an award.
parents take this shyt now to spoil kids and not teach manners and a correct upbringing, mainly the rich parents of the world.
But my son knows I buy those gifts too.and those go under the tree b4 christmas day.
Santa only shows up with extra shyt on the 25th if he "knew" my son was good.
So trust my son is learning compassion and how to be good.

Thank you and great post I agree with you. I know people that spend 1k on a bad ass kid and it's just terrible. The kids grow up to be rude and not give 1 fukk about anything.
