White supremacy never sleeps, brehs and brehettes...

If you recall, in November, students began levying criticism against former university president Tim Wolfe for his handling of racist incidents on campus. The protests drew significant media attention when Jonathan Butler, a 25-year-old graduate student, declared that he would go on a hunger strike, in response to the racially charged incidents, until Wolfe resigned. The football team’s coach, Gary Pinkel, admitted that the decision to boycott stemmed from Butler’s hunger strike. Wolfe almost immediately resigned as theprotest/boycott received national attention and started fukking up the university's athletic program's cash flow.

As a response to the protest/boycott against former university president Wolfe orchestrated by the black University of Missouri football players, Republican lawmaker Rick Brattin proposed a bill that aims to strip scholarships from college athletes who refuse to play for non-health related issues.

"According to the pre-filed bill, if it is enacted, any “college athlete who calls, incites, supports, or participates in any strike or concerted refusal to play a scheduled game shall have his or her scholarship revoked”. Additionally, the bill continues, “any member of a coaching staff who encourages or enables a college athlete to engage in behavior” prohibited under the bill “shall be fined by his or her institution of employment”.

Bill sponsor state representative Rick Brattin proposed to have legislation enacted by August 2016, prior to the
start of next year’s college football season.

The university doesn’t receive state funds to operate athletic programs, according to the University of Missouri’s
student-athlete handbook. “[T]hus, similar to private business, the Mizzou Athletics Department must operate solely from what revenue it generates,” the handbook states."

If this bill passes through Missouri's House of Representatives and ultimately becomes a law, college athletes will lose their scholarships if they ever go on strike.

This is what white supremacy looks like.

Not an attorney or anything but does becoming a football player automatically strip people of their civil rights ie right to assemble/protest?

all that would do is destroy their recruiting:russ:

no one would accept a scholarship in that state if that was law when they had offers in other states

Exactamundo.

That's why I know this dumbass bill would never pass in this state. They already suck, they ain't tryin'
to lose no recruits behind this.

This doesnt have a prayer's chance of passing and becoming a law because of the obvious constitutional and legal issues. Besides the more pragmatic reason that such a law would destroy Missouri college sports, since no top athlete would dream of playing there again, nor would any top ranked coach sign up in a state with such govt. authoritarianism.

This is just republicans doing what they do best: signaling to their rube base of voters that they will stand against blacks at every turn thru racially polarizing optics, even if it all amounts to is an empty gesture. Its symbolic, and they've been doing it for decades. Its soothing to the perpetual angst of underachieving whites, and comforts their prejudice.

Thats why black conservative republicans like the OP slay me. What a bunch of lames. You can feign outrage, but this is the kind of hate and idiocy you support. You stand by these racist a$$holes.
