• Turned on Cripple H.
• Main-evented Wrestemania 21 and dodged the shovel.
• Dodged the shovel again at Backlash.
• Dodged the shovel for a third and final time at Vengeance in the Hell in a Cell.
• Traded to Smackdown.
• Feuded with JBL.
• Feuded with Eddie.
• Feuded with Big Show, Kane and other Raw superstars.
• Teamed up with Rey to win the Tag Team titles from MNM.
• Was set to feud with Mark Henry until he got injured.

John Cena:

• Got eliminated at the Rumble by Batista.
• Lose US title to Orlando Jordan.
• Watched JBL blow up his Spinner belt in a .
• Ended JBL's reign at Wrestlemania 21 in the most anti climatic way (doing what Eddie, Taker, Booker, Angle & Show somehow couldn't do).
• Revealed the Spinner belt.
• Beat JBL in an I-Quit match.
• Traded to Raw.
• Feuded with Christian & Jericho.
• Had half the fans turn on him at Summerslam against Jericho.

bold alone gives it to batista. 3 months into becoming champ, the crowd turned on john, and it was more than half the fans by then that had turned on him if I remember right. 9 minutes of getting beat on and ducking a clothesline from hell and hitting an FU after the other 5 guys couldn't get him when the deck was stacked in their favor? they started trying to up him and make his peers look weak by comparison before he ever even won the title. Also by survivor series against angle at least 75% of the fans had turned against him. Big dave looked like a star on raw and had a really good run on smackdown too, though I think that each guy would have benefitted by not swapping brands.

Batista's heat was cooled the minute he was traded to Smackdown while the inverse happened to Cena when he went to RAW.

I always found it strange that Cena was positioned as the guy over Batista. Batista was so over before during and after the split from Evolution, and he had a career year in 05. The showing in the Chamber, winning the Rumble, main eventing Mania and beating the top heel (HHH) and winning the belt. Then out of nowhere Cena becomes top dog on RAW. Was and still is weird to me. Guess Cena lined up more in terms of what they wanted out of the top face.

To answer the OP though its Batista easily IMO. Bigger, better moments and matches than Cena was having.
