This is not always true.... I live in the Bay. a very tech savvy place. It is the norm here to use apps and dating websites. A lot of people use it for social meet up while they are out. It isn't always about sex. There are even more exclusive Tinder style apps that you have to get invited to use. Im sure it is different in places that do not have SF's tech culture.
