The thing about wealthy Black people in this country is that they've earned their position and resources. They (mostly) aren't trust fund kids or heirs to million dollar fortunes.
For the old money, they had an ancestor who was able to break through all types of legal and social barriers, take advantage or/or create opportunities, and build resources. Again, because they earned it, they've instilled the value of formal education, credentials, and ownership through their lineage as much as they could. Put their children in positions to excel and have high standards and expectations for them.
From my personal observation, many new money folks, those who recently made that career/education/financial breakthrough ...emulate the outward accoutrements of the old money Blacks, but not the strong emphasis on education to their children. Having money is a new thing to them, so the kids are pampered and spoiled. They don't develop that hunger and drive that propelled their parents to where they reached.
