A lot of hoods are gentrified now and the culture has changed. Some due to that gentrification, some because some people feel like it's exploitative or glorifying it, or like homie above me said it ain't cool anymore.

People just got tired of them.....The VAST majority of them joints were awful, none of them brought anything original to the table. They can make a resurgence if someone approaches it from a new angle and puts effort and care into it.

I thought they was doing a sequel to ATL. And they remaking Scarface next year, so expect a new wave of hood movies to follow.

Hollywood is in love with 100+ million dollar budgets of remakes, sequels or existing IPs. Stuff that would cost studios 50 million or below like "hood films" are now just cable or streaming series like The Breaks or Tales.

My guess is it's hard for black folk to glorify the struggle when there ain't nothing to glorify..especially on a budget.
