If the NBA wants competitive balance, they have to get rid of max salaries and pay guys like Lebron their worth. Of course the union doesn't want that because that means star players get paid more while suppressing the values of the middle class which is most of the league

Reduce the cap by 45 million and allow 1 contract per team that doesnt go against the cap. If Bron/KD/Curry/Kawhi/Giannis types are making 80m a year, another megastar most likely isnt going to go there and have to be under the cap with the rest of the team splitting up the 70m.

What if you have an OKC situation and draft KD, Russ, Harden in back to back to back years? No way you can pay all three under a hard cap. Not to mention filling out the rest of the roster. It would be impossible to keep a championship team together. Teams shouldn't be punished for actually being good at scouting.

I think they should go back to the old way...soft cap with no max salary. That way everyone can get their money. fukk you money doesn't take over. But you still gotta put your money where your mouth is. Won't happen because the owners don't want 1 and 3.

It's not like they did that with MVP Harden but still stupid to do that over $4 mil nonetheless. But with the hardcap they wouldn't have even had a choice. But then you would still have super teams with a cap that high. All 3 top players would take 35m each and then the rest of the 45m would be split amongst the other 9 guys. Then the other teams, with no stars available, would be forced to max guys like Otto Porter, Schroder, to reach the minimum.

You make the cap $150 with no max and top superstars will be demanding $100 mil a year. There is no way you could have 2 guys at or anywhere near that level. Getting to the floor would be nothing. You could do it with one guy. That might give people what they claim they want in having only one superstar per team but you are pretty much removing all incentive to draft/scout well. Teams that drafted well would be forced to pick which one guy they are gonna keep and then sit idly by while some other team swoops in and gets their other talented guy(s) that they scouted and developed.
