You're born, you die...thats it, right? (A possible alternative to death/permanent nonexistence?)

I feel like either we live forever through reincarnation or die and stay gone forever. Both realities are terrifying :picard:

There's also a theory that the universe is cyclical and repeats. Which would mean you just relive your life over and over infinitely many times but don't remember it. :patrice:

But still, mostly likely dead is dead. :manny:

I could live with being in the Matrix. you die then end up in a higher universe.

This sounds like a great idea, until you start thinking about the consequences : damn near all our progress, art, etc...is driven by the sense of urgency knowing that we will die one day. A lot of everything we do is trying to push that death further away, or to create a legacy.

If this happens, it means you will have people from today's mindframe wake up in a future where the mindframe is different. Who will adapt to who? And who will have access to cryonics? Those who are on top today, meaning their power will be endless with no resolution in sight, since they will continue to accumulate wealth and power for eternity. While on the other hand the poor will continue to die and not accumulate anything to pass on. There's many ethic and long-term political and cultural aspects that make me believe this would be like the ultimate step in the weathly and dominant making sure power never changes hands and that the happy few will insure their stranglehold on everything for centuries to come.

I wouldn't want that if my family were gone.
