Yeah, we can talk about "Rise above hate" and "Hustle, loyalty, respect," but Cena (the character) is an absolutely terrible role model.
He's entitled, he's self-serving, he's disrespectful, he's misogynistic, he's immature, and he's just a fukking a$$hole. I think the issue is more about fans being too used to that specific character than some arbitrary face/heel distinction.
