Columbus, Ohio-bred Rashad is easily a quadruple threat, with a growing discography that’s starting to speak volumes. Having worked with Lone Catalysts and Styles P among others, making a name for himself on the production front he most notably crafted the impressive soundscape for MMG emcee Stalley‘s album Lincoln Way Nights. Bringing his latest project solo to the forefront, Museum showcases the singer, songwriter, musician and emcee’s eclectic talents combined.

Raised on classic albums like Earth Wind & Fire‘s The Way of The World and Quincy Jones’ The Dude, with Museum Rashad creates a sound that both pays homage to the greats and creates his own terrain and sound. Rashad uses the phrase “vintage-future” to describe the project, as he pulls from the greats with samples and lyrical references yet creates and develops his own sound to create an eclectic, original project.

Opening track “It’s Me Again” brings reflective lyrics and smooth production that sets the tone, whilst mixtape highlight “The Return” bears an arrangement reminiscent of ’90s groups like Jodeci, but with a contemporary twist.

“JAM (That’s My shyt)” samples Guy‘s “Teddy’s Jam” and pays homage to some of his favorite artists – including Frankie Beverly & Maze and The Isley Brothers and EWF – whilst “My Pad” pays respect to Xscape’s “Just Kickin’ It,” borrowing its “kick off your shoes and relax your feet” chorus.

For those unfamiliar with Rashad, Museum gives a pretty good indication of who he is as an artist; creating a soulful soundscape that expounds on personal stories and ideas with a combination of hip hop and subtle use of samples, Museum is a stellar mixtape and a truly creative effort of love.

this cat is aight. he got some beats and he can sing a little.

it's funny hearing this dude's music cause i always wondered who copywrite was dissing on soul position's ill album closer "still listening" and it's this dude. i don't know what happened between them but copy murked him on that cut. i wonder if blueprint and jakki were dissing him on there as well.

either way, i still fukks with this though, it's crazy that rashad was signed to mase's label before he found God and has gotten the runaround ever since.

if anyone got any of his older work with illogic and them when they were called The 3rd Eye, link that sh1t up.
