Great thread: celebrating 2 great Black artists. To me, there’s no competition. Biggie’s flow, voice, charm (pause), wordplay, and lyrical intricacies are amazing. A better pure MC. Pac was more than an MC.

Respectfully:

The subject matter covered
The social impact made
The cultural impact made

Just those 3 points alone makes Pac severely better than Biggie

Biggie: drugs, fashion brands and women

Pac: from revolution, FTP to Brenda’s got a baby to you name it… Club joints: check. Social commentary joints? Check. Pac was l i t e r a l l y a poet and an activist.

Pac has more classic UNRELEASED songs that were only on mixtapes and forums… than Biggie had hit songs. We can’t begin to go album for album and hit for hit, Pac clears that with absolute ease.

If you then say: well Biggie only had 2 albums, ok. You can take *ANY* 2 of Pac’s albums and you can go start to finish, 0 skips with Pac. Big was great but some songs and forced collaborations could be skipped.

Also: Pac covered so many eras and sounds. Every album was different sonically, energetically and set the tone for the new era.

Lastly: their biggest co-signs. Puffy (real eye for talent and a great ear, at his core a r&b group (Jodeci. Mary, 112, commercial rap guy) Dr. Dre (easily the best music producer in rap history. RAP. RAP. Not Rap, R&B, pop. RAP.).

RIP PAC AND BIG!

I might be the only person who wasn't feeling life after death. After ready to die that shot was a massive disappointment to me
Way too much filler on that I swear it’s a tri state bias because RTD at a point in time was my second favorite album but LAD wasn’t it

I think objectively, Pac is a bigger global icon.

But when it comes to being an MC, B.I.G. was on an entirely different level. I love Pac, but he wasn't on Biggie's level with the rhymes.
I agree for sure BIG is better lyrically. But end of the day , I just prefer PAC music. It’s just better to me. And more impactful

Biggie was the better lyricist all the way around.

But its like I say about Lupe: you can be the GOAT of GOATS MC from a rhyming stand point.
But public opinion will always go to whomever can connect with the largest audience more.

And if emotional conveyance connects you to the biggest and most diverse audience, and music is what feelings sound like?

Yeah, pac had/got biggie and damn near anybody dwarfed in that area .

It is what it is :francis:

This

I love and got a lot of respect for Pac

He was truly a gifted and original artist

But when it comes to emcees, BIG was the best. The rhymes, the word play, the lyrics, the delivery, the flow, his voice… he was the perfect emcee

Word.

I was just talking about him the other night, saying this.

There wasn't a thing in emceeing, that he wasn't the greatest at. Most MC's can do a couple of things well. He was one of those rare MC's that was dope at everything! It's wild to know he was doing that at a mad high level in his early 20's.

Facts, you speak the truth!

That’s what so mind boggling; dude was in his early 20’s and had every single attribute that makes the perfect emcee
