Blu definitely didn't birth that whatsoever.
He's a follower in a long line of West Coast alternative Hip-Hop.
If there is no Pharcyde, Aceyalone, Myka Nyne, Murs etc. there is no Blu, Fashawn, Kenrick and so on
to follow in their footsteps.. The west coast's Hip-Hop scene and the movements that happened
within it are a little more extensive than Blu or his admittedly fantastic album.
The old guard alternative rap movement was dead by the time Below The Heavens dropped. Blu spearheaded it's resurgence and it has now become commonplace in the westcoast scene. California alternative rap was not maintstream until Kendrick, who was directly influenced by Blu.
