Likely to protect another life either your own or someone else's. Even then it's not cool per say just a necessary thing.
Life is precious and when we take it away for any other reason we devalue the lives in which we all lead. Life can only be worth another life.
There are deeper philosophical arguments we can wax further on this subject like "what if you had to choose between the life of a heart surgeon who would go on to save 100 more Iives or the life of 2 ordinary people?" Who do you choose to save?
