my thoughts
the prelims
sultan al mohammed has something out of all the saudi fighters ive seen paraded. that kid might be something as long as someone drills the importance of defense into him...it would be a shame if he got caught and taxed early by his 20s.
porras got a gift draw because that african cat mpenda beat his ass like a drum...porras needs to learn how to use his height and reach to fight else another loss is coming
mohammed alakel i do not like watching him fight..at least this time he scored a knockdown this time...i dont think he's featherfisted but his offense isn't that effective at all
vito mielnicki is a fighter im still waiting to see if he will take the leap...shoutout to
@LauderdaleBoss for calling him joey spencer 2.0 because honestly that's a perfect correlation...a first half fighter...he was beating nmomah pretty good...then hit a wall with his hand hurting and nmomah had some moments until vito was finally was able to hurt him and force a stoppage latre after dropping him.i honestly cant see vito picking up a belt at 160 even with the division being as bad as it is now but his momentum keeps moving forward
main card
abdullah mason and sam noakes put on star making performances last night.....abdullah mason most have pegged on here he would be one of boxing's next superstars and be a future world champ...glad to see he lived up to his potential but man there were some moments where it was looking it would not be that..sam noakes was virtually unknown to most..even hardcores like myself and the uk contingent...his record suggested that he had power and watching some of his fights on youtube backed it up..but he seemed pretty slow speed wise..they were calling him the kent golovkin which i rolled my eyes at...i will say this..noakes is teak tough because in those 12 rounds there will plenty of moments where mason hit him with something that should have at least made him take a knee...instead he just came back and fought harder and my goodness was he landing...mason's offense was flowing but his defense and footwork are huge red flags..i get it you want to win your world title in style and i particularly like when fighters are willing to bleed and put themselves through the wringer to be a champion...mason could have really made this fight easier on himself if he focused more on the body then headhunting...noakes snapped mason's head back all night and was able to cut off the ring on him and bully him on the inside and in the ropes...noakes feet might be slow but he has educated feet..footwork isn't all about speed...it was a 50/50 fight and it lived up to it and then some...i would LOVE to see a rematch but let mason have it in cleveland..noakes will be champion at some point..his time will come...outstanding FOTY candidate
bam vs puma - when you have 2 fighters who are elite in their styles...it could be 50/50 or one style dominates the other..i mentioned this in my preview post..i thought it would be a FOTY but i was wrong...bam being the elite boxer puncher nullified puma's elite volume punching..damn near had him looking like an amateur..bam outboxed him and out punched him..puma had NO moments in this fight save for what i am sure was a knockdown on bam in round 1 that wasn't called..puma was swinging and missing..bam showed him pivots, turned him, worked his body, and broke puma's nose..and he did this without rushing his work or smothering it..it was getting to the point where i thought bam was playing with his food too much...the end came of a beautiful pull counter that deposited puma on the canvas for the full 10..ELITE PERFORMANCE...bam is a p4p fighter...he is definitely in the realm with usyk, crawford, and monster..puma im sure will come back stronger...now we wait to see if bam will complete the 115 cypher and be the first man to be undisputed there...esp if kenshiro wins that ibf 115 title at the end of the year because thats a money fight
haney vs norman - this fight more than the others carried the buzz of the entire card....the buildup, the back and forth, and general fan interest was largely for these 2..devin haney has definitely crossed over into casual territory for boxing and non boxing reasons...his last 2 fights have dented his reputation for what he was and is..an elite fighter...brian norman was somebody that was fighting on blk prime cards before crawford and was known as somebody that gave good to great work to known start fighters...dude was possibly on the verge of being cut by TR when pulled off the most spectacular win of his career being the b side to a streaking santillan who he beat the living shyt out of...that win came with the interim wbo 147 belt which got upgraded to full champ after crawford gave up the belt...he then followed with knockouts in his title defenses..the last a leading KO of the year candidate vs sasaki..so most thought that norman would be able to find haney's chin...instead it was haney who found norman's..who walked him into a counter and dropped him hard with a right hand in round 2..had the fight ended in that round it would have been HUGE statement for devin haney...norman was able to survive that round but he was not effective at that..he had no plan b outside of making the fight more physical..that just made haney clinch more than he should rather than putting the foot on the gas pedal more on his offense...devin's jab was on point and broke norman's nose and norman was still running into those check hooks...norman just wasn't prepared for this type of fighter and it ..santillan, cuevas, and sasaki..they were there to be hit by him..devin basically beat him in his first gear...i remember saying that i wasn't a believer in norman like that and it showed..i saw his first 2 fights on TR live where he boxed and he looked mid..i last said this when i was discussing the fight with
@Knicksman20 ...at least i was correct in my thinking about norman...his recent string of knockouts just didnt move me..now if he found haney's chin and put him out then i would have been like

..devin is a 3 division champ and a free agent so im sure we will see him in high profile bouts in the future...norman can still do work,...he def dodged a bullet with the boots negotiations going south because boots might have done him worse..but norman can beat a rolly, a crocker, a barrios at 147..oh and the judge who scored this 114-113...get him the fukk outta here
benavidez vs yarde - this fight disappointed me more than the others..and i put this squarely on yarde...i wasn't down on the fight when it was announced...yarde is a world title gatekeeper...has no victories on that level but he gave hard fights to those opponents in kovalev and beterbiev before losing...i thought he would do the same because benavidez had not stopped anyone at 175 or looked like he did at 168...yarde gave him the opportunity to do so..benavidez had a lumbering target who couldn't find no range or work to throw punches and he put on a one sided beatdown....yarde was even getting tore up clinching...ref was like work out of the clinching which benavidez obliged by landing a one punch killer instinct combo on yarde...he did that a couple times in the fight...clinching benavidez outside of short term is never a good idea..that man sparred with ggg and kelly pavlik as a teen...you get that kind of work coming up...you can handle anyone in a clinch..then knockdown came in round 7 where benavidez battered yarde to the canvas and let loose an illegal shot which cost him 2 points on the card...it was all for nothing as soon as the action continued, benavidez battered him again until the ref stopped the fight..benavidez then announced he was going to fight zurdo for his CW titles...not a fan of this since i do think he is leaving food on the table not rumbling with bivol or beterbiev...yarde im sure can continue on the domestic level but i think he has spoiled on the vine on top of his hard fights...tunde ajayi is a terrible trainer and he never got the best out of yarde like he should...he made yarde an limited one dimensional fighters where he could have been a little bit more than that
overall this was a good not great card...little interference from turki and not prize getaways or unnecessary concerts...i just wish the 50/50 fights on paper played out in the ring...on to the next one
