And that was specifically because dude still wants to go looking for HC jobs. It was a favor, good will gesture, etc.

Stephen Silas, Paul Silas' son, is the guy who's been around even when our head coaching staff was getting cleaned out year after year. He's been credited by others and directly for the progression and development of Steph and Monta back with the Warriors (even more than Mark Jackson). Dude also has coached more games as the filling in hc.

Ewing had an entire run with summer league and all it did was show that he can't engage with guys at all. He's a solid one on one mentor but he's not a guy you give 15 players to and be hands off with.

If you hire him, you hire a name and a scapegoat. You're just buying yourself a year to clear cap space. Can't even develop talent.

Yea I can see that. The"re definitely grooming Stephen. But man would that look awful when the time comes and they skip over Pat. Might just be the nail in his coffin.

Stan Van Gundy is the only one that put in that much time as an assistant and didn't become a head coach. Stan did 12yrs before he got his break...but Stan was the top assistant for years...I don't get that same feeling for Pat. Dude might really never get a shot.

At least Avery had two shots at NBA head coaching jobs. But I think his style is better suited for college anyway.

Think Avery was a decent coach. But that second stint he had in Brooklyn was a trap. That is why Kidd got out of that shyt. The place a dump ran by that crazy Russian.

He can't teach moves. He can teach professionalism and work ethic but real post work? Man...

He's worked with PLENTY of 1st round bigs and none of them made significant offensive strides under him.

actually most are eloquent speakers....
i havent seen very many stuttering mumbling coaches at this level of basketball...especially successful coaches.
name one?

it was baseball not basketball but charlie manual stutters and barely forms coherent sentences and he won a world series in 2008 and was a baseball manager for like over a decade i believe.
people STAYED dogging his communication skills though

He can not communicate. That's a fact of life in any profession. nikka gets up and starts yabba dabba doing like Fred Flintstone and shyt.
this is it.

when he was fired from orlando, he went to the knicks and did post-game analysis and was absolutely dreadful. He would sweat, stutter, and just come off nervous as fukk. I cant imagine how he is during interviews to be a head coach.

I figured i would update this instead of starting a new post. No excuse for Pat not to get hired. Rockets, Pacers, Grizzlies, Magic. Someone needs to hire this man.

Pat is my MAIN MAN. My entire NBA and Knicks fandom was built on this man. But where there's smoke, there's fire. Just because he's a great player, doesn't mean he'd make a great coach. Even in his post-game interviews he never dropped special insight and knowledge. Coaching is all about communication, not just calling timeouts to stop the opposing team's run.

All teams want to succeed. If they saw him being a winning coach, they wouldn't pass on him. There's no conspiracy. Patrick Ewing just doesn't have that quality that people are looking for in a coach. I think he should just transition into something else. Just be a big man coach. Maybe even at the College level. He'd probably be a heavily sought after to nurture some big-man talent at the College level.

I love that story of him staring at cheerleader asses during timeouts. HAHAHA.. That's my GOAT
