In his six years as a Boy Scout, Fabril Desroches has earned dozens of merit badges. But his true badge of honor is his baby brother, Farell.

Fabril helped to deliver his baby brother when his pregnant mom went into labor in their Rochdale Village home.

"I saw my mother was on the floor and that her water broke," Fabril said. "So when I saw that, I thought, 'It's too late, she's not going to make it to the hospital.'""I saw my mother was on the floor and that her water broke," Fabril said. "So when I saw that, I thought, 'It's too late, she's not going to make it to the hospital.'"

So the 14-year-old Boy Scout quickly jumped into action. He said he grabbed a medical book, skimmed to the pages about birth, and came to his mother's aide.

"After four sets of three pushes, the baby's head and body came out right into my hands," Fabril said. "I tapped the baby to see if it was alive, and then I unwrapped the umbilical cord from around his neck, and placed him into a blanket onto my mother's stomach."

The ambulance soon arrived, taking mom and baby Farell to the hospital. Fabril credits his scouting experience for keeping him calm during the special delivery, which happened last month.

"It makes me feel like I did something," he said. "I mean, I never expected to do what I did. So, I'm happy I did and I knew what to do."

The Desroches family came to Queens from Haiti seven years ago. Fabril, a freshman at Thomas Edison High School, said his dad always encouraged him to read, which is why he thought to grab the medical book.

"My father always told me that in the library all the books there are for everyone, choose what you want you want to read," Fabril said. "So, I just decided to take the medical book. For some reason, it interested me."
