Yeah he's technically wrong but she more than likely didn't read the books, just off the strength of her struggling to name a single title.

If she said I read Game of Thrones and the rest of the books, that'd be a solid tell that she was being honest.

Her struggles to just do something as simple as that are the tell that she's not being truthful.

Not to mention, that's a fantasy book.

A superb fantasy book series(I own them all + associated material going back decades so no heat) but it's not like she named the 3Body Problem or something by China Melville, or something at least a bit more esoteric.

But then again, most people don't really read like that anymore regardless so that's an unfair expectation imo.
I was going to post that. I doubt many that post here read like that.

He's wrong though?

He isn't wrong. It would be like saying "I have read the Philosopher's Stone series". The series isn't named after the first title in it.

She got tripped over because that's what the TV show does.

Him: Name ten books

Her: Are you serious?

Him: Yes, 100%. Name ten books.

Her: Well I’ve read Game of Thrones. I’m obsessed with the twilight series.

Him: What’s the book called?

Her: Game of Thrones…. The series?

Him: What’s the book called, it’s not called Game of Thrones.

That’s literally wrong. There is a book in the series called Game of Thrones. Answering his question by saying game of thrones is an acceptable answer. Trying to do a gotcha over the series title is dumb if he’s himself technically wrong about there not being a book called game of thrones. Especially since he initially asked for book names not the names of series.

He would be equally as wrong if he asked for the name of a book and someone said The Three Body Problem and he was like “that’s not the name of a book, the series is called Remembrance of Earths Past.”

Wrong.

What you witnessed was someone getting called on their bullshyt. He sensed it instantly and she confirmed he was write to press her when she said "Game of Thrones... the series" which confirmed she was not referring to a single book in the series.

Gotchas don’t work when you are wrong about the thing you’re trying to gotcha someone over.

Him: The book is called A Song of Ice and Fire

There is no book called that. But there is a book called game of thrones.

You can’t ask for the name of a book, they give you a name of a book, and then you say wrong because they didn’t name the series.

That’s like saying the three body problem isn’t the name of a book because the series is called remembrance of earths past.

Gotchas don’t work when you’re own technicalities are wrong.

The claim was that they were illiterate.
You don’t have to list books to prove you’re literate.

That’s not what literate means.
:what:

That’s like saying “if you can hear, list 10 music albums”

What? :why:

I am not impressed with stuff like this because i see its a right wing grift and part of the right wing playbook, this forum is filled with right wing grifters and trump supporters. How can any well functioning adult think anything note worthy or hype worthy about the video? A child who learnt a few buss words and catch phrases thats all

Tbh, even I don't even read the way I used to and I was a kid who skipped eating lunch to save lunch money so I could catch a bus to Borders or Barnes and Noble or Walden books to buy them.

My parents didn't understand why I'd buy em when we had library cards for our town + surrounding towns but it took too long for me.

So I can't hold a high position in this discourse myself

I would say due to her phrasing, he was right to be skeptical but yeah, I agree with the gist of your point.

Either way, reading a book doesn't mean you're smart as just because you've read something, it doesn't mean you really comprehend what you're reading.

I've seen enough discourse on popular books to tell me tons of people miss subtext and clues ALL THE TIME.
