Isn't this contrary to diversity?
an agenda?
If we ain't, who is?
think LONG and hard before you answer that. ...cause it DAMN sure ain't Europe in 2013.
am I missing something?
I didn't say racism didn't exist. I'm talking about diversity amongst citizens.
We're not having genocidal ethnic cleansing. We're not dragging muslims and sikhs in the streets. We're not
I'm pretty sure you don't understand what you're even talking about.

The United States is a nation of immigrants.
Yeah, there's diversity. But diversity is an empty word when in practice, the best opportunities afforded to its citizens overwhelmingly favor white males.

And,,,,,right on queue...When some disagrees and you can't refute it.....Insult his\her intelligence.....That'll show em I'm obviously right......![]()
I refuted EACH line of your response then said that you're not even SAYING anything when challenged.
How do you encourage citizens to place their homeland high in their priorities?
This is what I think is so misleading about a lot of the "anti-american" sentiment going around lately.
I don't dislike the US. I want to make it better...but I certainly don't hate it.
Thats the thing. If you want nations to continually exist, with borders and national interests etc...then people have to actually want to feel some desire to defend their nations...or...if you're going to go the route of "we're just citizens of the earth" then you should probably just push for a world government.![]()
I gave the example of racism and Jim Crow which is the antithesis of diversity....And you retort was simply "well, I didn't say racism didn't exist"

first of all, us borders are far from threatened, so how do you need patriotism to protect them?
second, the national interest isn't necessarily the interest of it's people, it's the interest of those who rule. patriotism is a tool that serves those who rule and allows them to delegitimize criticism. if patriotism tells you that your country is the greatest nation on earth, it doesn't need improvement. if you criticise your country, your unpatriotic. that way, patriotism renders any form of discent a crime against your country.
third you don't have to be a patriot to love your country. you also don't automatically hate your country if you don't buy into the concept of patriotism or even nationalism. wouldn't the concept of solidarity serve the purpose of improving your country much better? that way, you act out of a concern for your fellow men and not for the supposed good of the abstract concept of the nation state.

Nah. Not for real....I gave my reasons for why America isn't truly diverse, and you simply said they were....

No person of color can sit in here and claim that America is diverse when most likely their everyday life is spent curtailing their thoughts, opinions, and mannerisms to suit white people.....
You can be a diverse country and be racist.
You can be a country with nationalistic and xenophobic policy and be diverse.
Diverse is a word. Diverse in what? Population? Culture? Government policy? Wildlife? Be specific and concise, nikka.
If you're tying to claim USA isn't one of the most diverse places on this here planet, as far as ethnicities and cultures, then you are a delusional mothafukka.
