I saw a documentary years ago, might’ve been Spike’s I’m not sure, but they interviewed some Black man who was alive back then.
He said when it happened their first instinct was to pick up the gun and make those responsible pay. But then, he said, they had a better idea: vote.
He said they decided the best way to make those people pay was at the voting booth, so that’s what they did. Don’t know who or what they were voting against because I’m sure the men responsible for bombing that church and murdering those babies weren’t elected to that position.
RIP.

I can only assume he thought if they elected the right person they would bring the killers to justice and protect their children. Idk if that's how it worked out.

Nah that’s not how it worked out. And that’s not what he thought either, not in 1950s Alabama, they all knew better.
The reality then wasn’t any different than now - they were simply scared. And just like alotta these dudes today who’ve convinced themselves and try to convince others that voting is the appropriate response to terrorism, they did nothing. And white folk took notice of that and have been acting accordingly ever since.
