some of why he did it, i think is because he was shy, so it was sort of like a defense mechanism for him at first.
but after a while. he definitely played more into for the cameras and to create a mystery for himself as an artist, to help set himself apart from his peers

Yep MJ did it as well. Back then as artist they tried to be mysterious when doing interviews as a way of creating an illusion to the fans. Back then the less interviews you did the more it helped your image....today its the opposite.
Much harder to do now with social media and how now its more important for artist to do interviews and interact with fans.

Yep I remember the media interviewing Boy George in the late 80s or early 90s and them saying that he doesn't normally do interviews or speak. Then years later finding out that wasn't even that fools real voice...
. That boy had me fooled when I was a youngster....Yeah but social media messed everything up....it destroyed the entire illusion of artist. The more ignorant and stupid they act on social media the more fans they get and the more popular they get.
