Unfortunately there is no easy way around that. It is even tough to follow that in the books with maps and text available. It is just something that comes with time. As you watch the show, you will begin to understand more. PAY ATTENTION to the opening credits, they show maps and locations that are in the episode. It will help you a lot.
Once you eventually decide to pick up the books and rewatch the series you will be able to understand the 'world' they are living in more. For now, just enjoy the ride.

They all traveled together. If you remember in episode 2 when the whole debacle with Arya, Sansa, and Prince Joffrey went down, it happened when everyone was heading south to King Landing.
I was also confused by this the first time I watched Season 1. They left Winterfell during episode 2, the girls leaving with Ned happened off-screen.They finally get to King's Landing in episode 3.
