Wait wait...how did the rabbis get herpes in the first place?
I think from what I remember reading is that it's not Genital Herpes (Herpes 2), which is what a lot of people think of when they think of herpes. This is Herpes 1 (oral), which is like cold sores, and it's very common among adults.
When you combine both HSV1 and HSV2, the worldwide rate of those infected is somewhere between 65% to 90%. Yes, the entire world has rates those high. In certain countries, the infection rate approaches nearly 100%.
Now, HSV1 can become an std if you have cold sores and you put your mouth on another person's genitals. In adults, the reaction can be mild, but in infants and young children, it can kill or seriously disable the child.
