hearing the original samples for the 1st time. i used to read liner notes & see groups like Faze O & the Blackbyrds and thought nothing of it cause i never heard their music. but their shyt was straight looped 90% of the time & it made the music seem a lot 'cheaper' and disposable

and that period in the early 00's/late 90's where everybody had a soundclick page putting their nondescript music on the net. alot of it was 'almost' good but not really. my boy from hartford was shopping demos but looking back i can say his shyt was straight garbage. too much crap out there & not enough quality control. but whatever, its just music

I'm not sure what samples you heard, but there have been numerous great sample flips all over the years. To the point guys were just sampling baselines or pianos. You make it sound like all hip hop samples just used the whole beat.

I like the art of sampling...I think it's pretty cool, being able to spot that one part of an old record and loop it and add some magic to it to create something new.
