Both good albums( DR & LIG). Neither are classics, u will not hear DJs play records from either of these albums ten years from now. They don't even play them now. Classic albums stand the test of time.

I don't hear DJ's playing Fear Of A Black Planet, BlackStar, By All Means Necessary, etc. Are these any less classic albums?

Not every album was conceptualized for radio/DJ play. Some are mean to be digested by the listener with thought and attention given to the lyrics, concepts, and overall THEME of the body of work.

DR is the type of album you bump on a summer evening smoking some piff with your friends and discussing the mysteries of life while you look up at the stars :ahh:

Just because it wasn't meant for the clubs doesn't make it any less classic

The first architect, the first philosophers
Astronomers, the first prophets and the doctors were us"

:ohword: I said "smart dumb nikka" don't change the context of what I said. I understand the concept and thank you for making my point for me. It's just entertainment, but this laughable attempt at being a psuedo-anthropologist just makes Nas look like what? A smart dumb nikka. :skip:

Edit: :dwillhuh: my bad I forgot to put "smart dumb nikka" in my original post, but fukk it

what a conundrum. i dont know if i should hope that you are black (based on your use of terms like ngga) or hope that you are white for your ignorance of history.

there was nothing inaccurate about those lyrics. this is the "fool" proverb coming to fruition as you are looking foolish for opening your mouth.

stick to the jeezy, wayne, ross, jayz or whatever type of dumbed down version of our genre that you so passionately indulge in

we have been past the point where DJs honestly and wholeheartedly dictate what is popular amongst listeners. a classic is a classic. the major corporations have no say.

your reasoning is detrimental to the state of hiphop.

I'm biracial, dominican on my mother's side and european on my father's. My bad, you're right, I don't have enough "black points" to talk about music critically and objectively :pachaha:

Fact of the matter is, if you're taking what Nas said in that verse as 100%, exact, fact then you have a warped perception of history, but considering the characters on this site, I would not be surprised.

This might be the realest shyt I have read on this site. I still play Untitled to this day. A lot of people don't read, or follow world events so they can't feel or relate to the topics Nasir Jones is touching on. Nas and Damien should do a Distant Relatives 2.

the bolded is the absolute. like in grindtime they say "bars over jokes" and unfortunately that is the opposite everywhere else worldwide

too bad damien/nas seen the devil and will probably never unite for an album again and I also have the feeling nas will be more "life is good" from now on. they were vague in the interview but essentially the powers that be threatened them and also forced them to water down the songs. they wanted to reference specific conditions and situations but were deterred forcefully.

distant relatives is a flawless classic probably ahead of its time and if you dissagree my guess is your ipod is full of 50 cent/future/chief keef and similar garbage lol nas spits one of the illest verses I've ever heard....

If these are the last days
And 100-foot waves come crashing down
I get some hash and pounds
Pass around the bud then watch the flood
Can't stop apocalypse
My synopsis is catastrophic
Will we survive it
If satellites is causing earthquakes
Honestly man it's the sign of the times
And the times at hand

:whew:

yea that track is insanity. the album can only go over the heads of close minded individuals. open chakras already know the deal.

this album was huge overseas.

they were playing "promise land" in the mall in kingston and that's when I was like WORD. that and reading how the africans was rallying up while bumpin this CD.

I never said anything about "black points" you sound guilty. I see your one of these wiggers that says ish like "smart dumb ngga", a straight slang jacker and online jokester.

the fact of the matter is history is already presented in a warped fashion and offical counts are chock full of innaccuracies and lies.

considering the internet in general you fit the archtype of that characature you want to portray me as.

nas spit 100% facts. since this thread isn't going anywhere I can hold your hand and walk you through a quick history lesson.

you let me know.

Slang jacker? I'm from Baltimore, I grew up in an environment where people talk like this. Forgive me if my words offend, but people talked to me like this and people still do. Since you're getting butt-hurt over that lexicon, let's use a word like "psuedo-intellectual" instead. You know nothing about me other than an extremely vague idea of my ethnic background. I mention "black points" because rather than attacking my assertions you immediately resorted to attacking my ethnic background (which you're still completely wrong about) even though it was an irrelevant point.

All I'm saying is that this album had great peaks, and at times it was muddled by preachyness. Regardless, musically it's a wonderful project.

People have no idea what a classic album sounds like. This is just a good record nothing more nothing less.
