Everybody mentioning Minnesota in the thread. What am I missing about Minnesota? Outside of Prince, Atmosphere and maybe Wolves and Vikings what so special about it that I don't know about? Especially considering the other places on the list, personally if it's an issue of race...St Louis, KC, Baton Rouge, Charlotte and Arkansas got more black folk.
Personally maybe it's NC bias but Charlotte is probably the best city on the list in terms of mix of city life and country life.

I like minneapolis in the summer tho. lot of black people, it's affordable, and from relatives we have that live there, there seem to be a plethora of jobs.

Ill give you the pros and cons of MInnesota

Cons.
1. Most expensive state for daycare
2. 90 percent white. their idea of diverse is like 85-90 percent white and 2 percent everything else
3. weather. eventually you have to get out the car. those negative temps are no joke. I don't care how warm u dress.
4. no black middle class neighborhoods. I hate this part. Majority of blacks live over the northside which is the hood. other blacks are more spread out. Lack of professional blacks compared to Atl and dmv
5. nightlife- downtown Minneapolis and st paul is dead sun- Thursday. Poppin Friday and Saturday night. this is not a 24/7 type of party city like new York or new Orleans
6. Isolated- closest major city is Chicago. Its like a 6-7 hour drive

pros
1. home to several fortune 500 companies. Best buy, Target General MIlls
2. open enrollment. kids don't have to live in the district they go to school in.
3. Good public school system
4. Affordable compared to other cities like say Dc or New York
5. all 4 sports teams.
6. several theatres if you iike plays, comedy shows, concerts.

As a city its got a lot going for it. Jobs, nice neighborhoods, not too crowded but not podunk either. It ain't NYC, LA, ATL or the Chi in terms of nightlife but there's definitely plenty of spots to step out to and spots to chill at. Ain't like you'll be bored there. Plus once you grown its a good spot to raise a family too. April-Oct its beautiful and theres parks, lakes, all sorts of stuff to do outside. Plus you got 4 pro teams, a major college, every major concert tour comes through so you don't miss out on stuff like that. Weather in the winter sucks but I've lived in Illinois for the past 10 years and weather sucks in winter here too. If its under 40 out I'm staying inside anyway

I agree as long as you got a garage to start your car and a remote car starter you should be straight. I just wish it was more black neighborhoods with black professionals man.

I ain't have a car till I moved to Illinois and I feel the same way. Was miserable when I lived in an apt with no remote starter. But I feel you on the black neighborhoods. But real talk how many cities have middle class black neighborhoods? Chicago and ATL do. Who else? If I move back to the crib I'm probably looking southside or Bloomington/Richfield. Could possibly do BP or Robbinsdale

So it's basically like Raleigh-Durham we just have no pro teams (Unless you into hockey) more colleges and better weather year round. :whoa: Not shytting on Minnesota but similar characteristics. The college aspect keeps the nightlife going so there's something to do till 4 am if you know the right crowd but def not ATL or even Charlotte.

It used to be hella bootsee, but for real got buildings now. LOL

They're good places to raise a family, doe.

It is cheap to live here in KC if you got a good job.

always said the other spot I'd be cool with living is either Raleigh Durham or Charlotte. Those spots remind me of back home. Little smaller but more black folks
