Man this thread has me reminiscing about summer 2001. Was going into my senior year of high school. Things were so optimistic until 9/11.
I don't think there has been a year that can touch summer 2001 musically.

I was binging off NY mixtapes pre 9/11. Kay Slay putting out 30 track tapes of new music from street rappers. Clue and Flex dropping new music from established artists. Around that time the Beans and Jada were all heads talked about and Lox/SP were about to step in. IIRC Jada album dropped a few weeks before Sept 01. Styles wait a minute freestyle came out right before labor day 01. FK Prodigy (Takeover) full version where he disses Nas and Don't You Know finally leaked on Napster before BP1. Around this time mostly everyone thought Nas was done. A guy named Joe Buddens was killing mixtapes with Paul Cain and Fab. Diplomats were reintroducing themselves on freestyles with a then unknown hungry Juelz Santana. Everyone wanted to rap over the Special Delivery and Oh No beat. Ghostface had a huge buzz from the Good Times, The Watch and the Sun OG versions. Mobb Deep and Prodigy were dropping heat with Burn, OG version of Crawlin. Prodigy had 3 songs leak the first few days of Sept 01 for the OG version of HNIC2. I only remember one being named "Hydro NYC". I can't forget the loosies dropped by then next gen artists like Bathgate, Geda K, Poster Boy
