2007-2008 Denver Nuggets - Coach Karl, Melo or AI’s fault?

-melo was In the post season
-Camby defense was overrated
-Kobe Dominated
-lacked defense
-lacked IQ so they needed a PG really badly

They were 10th in defensive rating, first in steals and blocks and 14th in eFG% allowed, also one of the most disclipined defenses in the league

They gave up a lot of points because they were the fastest paced team in the league, 99.7 possessions per game which would be 16th this year.

They were a very balanced team. Camby was a DPOY caliber player who was only 1 year removed from winning it

Nene proved that Camby was overrated. Stop it

That team was overrated due to the names on the team.

They weren't that stacked. They had Chucky Atkins and Anthony Carter and Eduardo Najera off the bench.

That still would not explain why the Nuggets were an above average team defensively despite having starters that were not particularly known for their defense. At worst Camby was a good help defender, K-Mart was another reason for the defense

Virtually that same team made it to the Western Conference Finals when AI was traded for Billups. Not saying AI was at fault but the make up of that team didn’t have a leader and facilitator like a Billups. I ultimate lay blame at management because they constructed that team and Karl because for whatever reason he just couldn’t coach the team to any postseason success. I thought it was telling that he didn’t even have plays to inbound the ball when Denver played the Lakers in the WCF.

The one year where nene and other bigs actually weren't injured or hurt in the playoffs

Such a shame they couldn’t win a ring. Where does the blame lie? I blame George Karl because he didn’t do anything to make the team a powerhouse. Say what you will, but look at what Mike D’antoni has done with two possession heavy guards


Bean & co had a great year too, and would’ve been hard to see the nuggets beat the big three even if they got out of the west. What an era

Melo could’ve won 2 games at the end but never got the chance. If he gets to take those shots he probably makes at least 1 they’d have a chance to close it out at home in game 6. If he makes both, they’re up 3-0. And Orlando was food.
