Kobe was no question the leader of that team and was most certainly the most valuable player on that team and in the entire league.....BUT....

People in this thread need to stop acting like Pau Gasol was some sort of marginal role player during those championship runs, when in fact he was giving you close to 20 points and 11 boards a game, a virtual double-double every.... single..... night.... smh. Odom, yea he's an easy target, but he was also giving you 10 and 10 with a few dimes.

Trevor Ariza was defending the opposing team's best wings and giving you close to 10 points off the bench along with 4 boards. Fish was also a glue for the team, he had championship pedigree and a good clutch gene.

Not to mention one of the greatest coaches in all of professional sports...Phil Jackson (along with his exceptional coaching staff).

It was an extremely well put together team with players that complemented each other.

And last, but certainly not least, let's not sit here and pretend the Lakers didn't go from losing 1-4 to the Suns in the first round the year prior to Pau arrival....to losing to the Celtics in 6 at the NBA Finals AFTER Pau's arrival.

Pau's relatively few All-Star appearances has more to do with the stacked Western Conference and the fact that it's mainly a popularity contest. The disrespect Pau gets - which is a cheaply veiled attempt to further prop up Kobe's legacy - is astouding! Kobe did not carry a bunch of bums to two championships. If that was the case, Kwame and Smush would have been had their rings!

in 2008, prior to Feb 5th (Pau's first game with LA) the Lakers were winning at a 65% clip....the 36 games with Pau in a Laker jersey? They won at a 75% clip.

Facts...I'm not making this up.

If tmac wasn't on his period or if Kobe didn't take yao out that series Who knows what could've been for the rockets

Yao-Artest-Scola-tmac- Aaron Brooks and a bench of Brent Barry, mutumbo, Kyle Lowry, wafer Shane Battier and Carl Landry. I don't care what any nigguh says, houston was deepest most talented squad that year and should've won. If just one of tmac or Yao could've stayed healthy....

But Artest man, I will never have anything bad to say about him. Dude is such a leader. I hate how the media likes to shyt on him. That nigguh just has an understated passion for the gam. And my nigguh made song with max b that season. When he ran into the crowd again when we eliminate Portland in the first round:wow:. Dude did more for us in one season than tmac did in 6.

Just a great year in general. Saw the rockets and cowboys get out the first round for the first time ever after a decade+ of rooting for them:to:

:mjlol: Your mistake is thinking the EAST= the WEST. You don't think Kobe would be DEEP in the playoffs consistently in the East? Please. Kobe's presence on the court alone has most players shook. And go back and look at Bynum numbers postseason during those championship runs. That's dude was already:flabbynsick: back then. His 2 years of relevancy and his coattail rings make people forget how non essential he used to be. Pau definitely helped Kobe win but he was not the driving force of those ships

No matter the conference, Kobe wasnt shyt those three years, you can spin the conf web all you want to and keep deflecting the truth. LBJ was winning 55+ games, and im sure some of those were over your coveted and predictable west teams. Stop playing the hypotetical game, woulda coulda shouldas arent absolute Sir.

Bold:

Lets see

2003-2004: Lakers lose finals, kobe thinks he awesome, runs off shaq
2004-2005 Lakers miss playoffs :mjlol:

2005-2006: Suns and first round exit

2006-2007: Suns, first round exit. Kobe doesnt even take a shot in the fourth quarter (and ppl say LeBron is a quitter)

2007-2008: Get Pau = Finals??

2008-2009: Finals

2009-2010: Finals
Um my ass he wasnt the driving factor. I guess LeBron wasnt the driving factor for the Heat getting to the Finals either right??:stopitslime:

You would start a team with Kobe instead of Lebron?
The Lakers started a team with Kobe along with Luke Walton and Brian Cook and won 2 chips after Shaq was traded in 2004. So yes I would start a team with Kobe instead of Bron because I've seen it happen(with championship results) with Kobe unlike Bron.

Lol Based on What?
how every legend and player that has played with him has praised him and work ethic. He would make me a better player also. If i just wanted to stand in corner and chuck 3s and have a shucking n jiving partner then i would play with lebron
