what about the singles? You know it's hard for a rapper like a Yo Gotti to move an album but you can't tell me he doesn't have singles for days.digital(album) sales are accounted for already in the numbers in the op

99% of artist eat off digital SINGLE sales. and usually go in the red with the actual album
good hip hop doesn't sell brehThis is one of the worse years ever for rap musically & financially..all that "you're just not looking for the good music" talk is bullshyt too..good hiphop never was this hard to find
Plus the wack ass threads in the booth is another example of how horrible hiphop has become![]()

The top-selling albums of 2014 so far are:
1 – Coldplay, 'Ghost Stories'
2 – Paolo Nutini, 'Caustic Love'
3 – Ellie Goulding, 'Halcyon'
4 – Paloma Faith, 'A Perfect Contradiction'
5 – Sam Smith, 'In The Lonely Hour'
6 – Pharrell Williams, 'Girl'
7 – Bastille, 'Bad Blood'
8 – London Grammar, 'If You Wait'
9 – Beyoncé, 'Beyoncé'
10 – Arctic Monkeys, 'AM'
Damn, didn't realize Coldplay still had that kind of pull, but then again I haven't checked for them in a while. They sold 383k first week and already at 589k. Pharrell's album did exactly as I expected it to. Start out with low sales and slowly keep selling. It's at 469k and will hit gold in a week or two and still keep selling.
So the top selling album in all genres this year is only at 589K ...and Pharell, who isn't even gold yet, is at #6....so at best there are only 5 albums in the entire industry to sale 500k or more in 2014,and we're already almost done with july..puts things in perspectiveI think most people know the rappers on the list are eating but they dont make much off their singles, all their money is pretty much show money and some sponsorship/branding money, I think the big thing to take away is these dudes are not eating nearly as well as the media promotes, hip hop on a commercial level is in a very tough spot. The Forbes list is complete bullshyt.

For the "white people have moved on" crowd...have white people "moved on" from music as a whole...or is it fairly obvious, there's an industry wide shift in the way music is consumed? By the time some of the bigger rap acts release albums, 2 or 3 rap albums will end up in the top 10 I'm guessing
since when did the top rappers not speak on money cars hoes and selling dope? the 80s nukka? youve been waiting a long time eh?I guess people finally stopped "buying" into them "bling, bling" raps. It's only for so long you can make the same album over and over talking about money, cars, hoes and selling dope.
Oh hip-hop,
We've been waiting for the return of social raps and commentary.

It was diversity back then, a balance. Not everyone following the same formula like today. Turn up.
